You are a globe-trotting adventurer and collector of rare artifacts and trinkets to add to your collection at your home base. A short time ago, some reliable, and some slightly unreliable, sources informed you of a new treasure found on a distant, uncharted island. You were given one clue about its whereabouts...which led to another...and another...and yet another and-Ah, you know the routine. You've done it dozens of times by now.
Anyway, you keep following the clues until you find the island. It seems ordinary enough...until a massive polygonal structure rises from underneath the island and appears right in front of you!
You stare at the enormous structure in awe before realizing what must be done...
You've followed all of the clues, braved all of the dangers, and traveled who knows how many miles just to reach this treasure...
And now only one last obstacle stands in your pathway beckoning you-no...DARING you to enter it to seek your reward.
Welcome to...(text-colour:yellow)[THE COMPLEXAGON!]
[[START]]You bravely enter the maze, and the entrance slams shut behind you.
It's safe to say that you're trapped in this place now, so there's nowhere else to go but forward.
You notice a sign that says "Welcome to the Complexagon. At the center of this amazing labyrinth, you will find what you came here for. Stay alert! If it catches you, it's over, so make your choices wisely!"
You have no idea what "it" is...
"Should I be worried?"
[["Nah, I can handle anything!"->Careless]]
[["I'll need to be extra careful."->Cautious]]You rush through the various paths without any kind care in the world. You enjoy taking in the sights and avoiding the traps, but you can't help feeling like someone or something is watching you from a distance.
You take a breather from your stroll and inspect your surroundings. You've apparently stumbled into a room where you have to pick one of two doors. One has a red 'X' on it. The other has a green check mark on it.
You see another sign.
"One door leads to your next challenge. The other leads to your doom. Choose wisely."
Which door do you pick?
[["This is too easy."->Wrong door]]
[["Seems a bit too easy..."->Right door]]You carefully navigate through every twist, turn, and obstacle that you approach. All seems well and good, but you can't help but feel like you're being watched.
You turn around quickly and just barely see a shadow duck around a corner and disappear.
You pick up a nearby branch and hold it tightly. If you're attacked, you're not going down without a fight.
What should you do?
[["It's better to press on, but I'll be ready just in case."->Protection]]
[["Let's see who or what this is..."->Investigate]]You nonchalantly open and enter the checkmarked door.
Big mistake.
You come face to face with a monster so grotesque, so ferocious, and so hungry that you freeze in your tracks as you stare at its giant eyes.
You don't know what to make of this monster, but you assume it must be "it."
You turn to run for your life, but the door has mysteriously vanished.
The monster lunges at you...
[[Next->First Ending (Worst A)]]Throwing caution to the wind, you pick the door with the red "X" on it.
Once you go through it, you find yourself in another room.
This one has some supplies for you to take with you.
There is another sign that catches your attention.
"Pick the best item for your quest."
There are a few things that catch your eye:
Which do you take?
[[Compass->Take Compass]]
[[Map->Take Map]]
[[Bag of fresh food->Take Bag]]
[[Rope->Take Rope]]You have the stick with you now and stay on guard as you trek forward.
You reach a room with an assortment of items in front of you.
A sign says "Pick one and keep moving. You're doing so well!"
With that little confidence boost, which item do you pick?
[[Take Compass]]
[[Take Map]]
[[Take Bag]]
[[Take Rope]] You backtrack to follow that figure.
It is only then that you relaize it was a mistake because you failed to notice some other creature attack you from behind.
The pain from the assault makes you black out.
Unfortunately, you do not wake up.
[[Next->First Ending (Worst B)]] You skillfully dodge under it. You feel the adrenaline pumping and realize that it's either kill or be killed when it comes to you and the monster.
You find a leftover knife from one of the previous adventurer's skeletal remains.
The battle was on and the monster senses it...
Which is why it didn't give you a chance in the fight and managed to swallow you whole and spit out your bones.
It makes a noise that sounds like a mocking chuckle.
Wow, this thing's mean...full from its meal, but mean nonetheless.
Looks like the adventure's over before it's just begun...
Unless you want to...
[[Retry?->START]]Being a bit greedy pays off because you decide to take them all anyway.
(Why not? Nothing is specifically stopping you.)
[[Move on to First Checkpoint]]Greediness pays off a bit because you take them all anyway.
[[Move on to First Checkpoint]] You feel your stomach rumble both with hunger and greed. You take all of the items. (And begin nibbling on an apple you found in the bag.)
[[Move on to First Checkpoint]] You're curious as to why a decent sized rope is something you might need, but to be on the safer side, you take all of the items just in case.
(Can't be too careful, you know?)
[[Move on to First Checkpoint]] You're spirit rises from your remains.
"I was so careful and didn't make it too far...if only I had another life!"
You suddenly remember that you do.
However, it only works if you want to do it.
So what do you say?
Want to...
[[Retry?->START]]You suddenly hear a low humming noise. Something about it makes you curious enough to follow it.
As you get closer to the source, it turns out that it was coming from a large book coming from an open room.
You realize with a mix of awe and disappointment that //this// is the treasure you were seeking.
The cover of the book reads "The Wanderer's Guide to the Complexagon." Surprisingly, there's no author.
You see the pedastal it floats over as a single ray of light shines down on it. Clearly, this is a trap that's armed to go off if you even get near it. What do you do since you need that book?
Two options come to mind.
[[Snatch the book and run.->Trap]]
[[Search for the trap and plan ahead.->Plan]]You move in closer...closer...inches away...centimeters...millimeters...
//SWIPE//
The book is...NOT yours.
It appears as though someone else grabbed it before you did.
Not wanting this to be a completely pointless quest, you take off after the thief.
You failed to notice the pit of spikes ahead of you...
[[Next->Second Ending (Bad)]]You know this is some kind of trap, so it'd be better not to move that book.
You try to figure out how to move it without springing a trap.
However, someone else manages to swipe the book from its pedastal and run off with it. Your instincts say to give chase, but you stop yourself long enough to notice a large pit filled with spikes hiding behind that pedastal.
Luckily, a bridge is nearby for you to safely cross over to the other side.
You continue on and now figure that you have a thief to hunt down.
[[Next]]"Hmm...wait a second..."
You stop to think about something that didn't add up.
"How did a thief steal the book and get over that pit without going over that bridge?"
You turn back and look down at the pit. There lies the now dead thief.
You shake your head in pity. The book managed to land on a rock sticking from the wall below you. You take it and open it up to read it.
Your mind is now bursting with all the knowledge of the Complexagon.
What do you do now?
[[Call it quits for now and leave?->Exit]]
[[Keep exploring.->Back to Adventure]]Ooh...that's gruesome...
Want to try it again at the very start?
[[Yes!->START]]
Or the last checkpoint?
[[Okay!->Move on to First Checkpoint]]
[[No...->END A]]Ah, well.
You made good progress.
Thanks for playing!
(But are you absolutely sure you want this to end already?)
[[Well...alright.->START]]Using your vast intellect of this maze, you easily find your way to the exit.
Congratulations! You've found a new artifact for your collection.
Although, a little piece of you still wonders what could have happened if you pressed on. You know that there's still a lot of treasures to find in there. But is it worth it?
You return home with a curious mind.
[[Continue->Good Ending]]You know everything about this maze. And you mean, EVERYTHING.
You've discovered that there is indeed a bigger treasure to find in the Complexagon. It is in the center, but it will take a while to reach it.
Do you dare to take on this challenge?
[[Yes, bring it on!->Quest On]]
[[This may not be worth it.->Good Ending]]You may have passed up on a few opportunities there, but hey, you've made your choice.
Although...there's always the possiblity of returning to the Complexagon.
Would you want to try this again?
[[REPLAY->START]]Your mind is made up. Time for a treasure hunt!
You make your way through the Complexagon. It does take a while. In fact, it feels like days-no, //weeks// pass by before you reach your goal.
Finally...you've reached your prize...
A massive diamond so clean and brilliant that you're almost blinded by its light. Something about it seems magical.
You approach it and once you place a hand on it...it engulfs you in a white light.
[[What's going on?->Ending]]You awaken to find yourself back in your home base holding the diamond in your arms.
You remembered what the diamond was. It was capable of granting wishes to anybody who holds it.
So much power in your hands...the possibilities were endless.
What do you want to do with it?
[["It's mine. ALL MINE!"->Wishful Ending]]
[["..."->True Ending]]You decide to retire.
What's the point in adventuring if you can just wish for all the things you want?
It was fun, but now, especially after all of what you went through to get this diamond, it's time to just sit back and relax...
//AS THE SUPREME RULER OF THE PLANET!//
[[Uh...what?]]After all that you've been through and realizing that this is the fruit of your labor, you decide that this is something that really should remain hidden from mankind.
With all that power, who know what'll happen if it fell into the wrong hands.
It is a diamond, and you don't exactly have another one to try to destroy it, so you do the next best thing...
You take it to your most effective and secluded vault in an undisclosde location where you store your forbidden items and never allow them to see the light of day.
[[Open the vault]]Yeah, so...it's safe to say that you've made some pretty irresponsible wishes with that stone, so now you rule the entire planet of Earth.
Quickly, it gets old, and you get bored. You begin missing your old adventuring days...and the life filled with fewer revolutionaries trying to overthrow you.
Want to make one last wish to try to get that life back?
[[Sure...I wish I could start over.->START]]You prepare to bury the diamond in the mounds of forbidden treasures, but you stop and think...
The reward may have been dangerous, but the quest was enlightening. You wonder what could have happened if you chose differently.
You look at the diamond pulsating with energy in your arms.
Want to make one last wish?
[[I wish to try finding this again.->START]]
[[No. The temptation is messing with me.->Finale]]You put the diamond in the vault.
"Mankind should never have this kind of power."
You lock the vault.
But you can't help but reminisce about the adventure...
